WHETHER they’re aspiring architects or a designer of castles, Wollongong City Council’s Lego Mania Competition will appeal to every child this school holidays.
The Lego Mania Competition will be run over seven sessions in most of Wollongong libraries over the July school holidays. And the sky is the limit in terms of creativity.
“Who doesn’t like playing with Lego?” Wollongong City Lord Mayor Gordon Bradbery said.
“This is a fantastic competition as it encourages kids to be creative and team it with problem-solving skills to make something special. And who knows, one of the competitors could be the next Glenn Murcutt.”
Children can construct anything from skyscrapers or castles in the Lego Mania Competition which will run in seven sessions across the holidays in most libraries.
There will be three age categories with winners from each session going on to compete in the Champion of Champions round to be held in September at Wollongong Central Library.
Entrants will each receive a participation prize, with the winner claiming a $25 voucher and a spot in the finals round.
Each child will receive a base plate and can build their creation from there, choosing from bricks, trees and fun characters like princesses or warriors.
“The competition is a fun way for children to get involved in the library,” Cr Bradbery said. “Lego is such a creative tool; children can take their design anywhere. And the library has plenty of books for kids to gain further inspiration and ideas.”
