Man charged over glassing at Bally pub

A MAN has been charged over a glassing assault at Balgownie Hotel on Friday night.

A man was playing pool with friends at the hotel on Balgownie Road about 11pm when he became involved in an argument with two men.

During the incident he was struck to the face with a schooner glass and sustained extensive lacerations to his face. Security officers intervened in the incident and were attempting to escort one of the men outside when he allegedly head-butted one of the officers before leaving the hotel.

The 19-year-old man was taken to Wollongong Hospital for treatment to lacerations to his cheek and eye socket. A security officer was treated at the scene by paramedics for minor facial injuries.

Two men, aged 19, were arrested in a nearby car park and taken to Wollongong Police Station. One of the men was charged with reckless wounding and assault occasioning actual bodily harm and given conditional bail to appear in Wollongong Local Court on Tuesday November 6. The other man was released without charge pending further investigations.
