Corrimal speed camera under review

speed cameraTHE speed camera on the Northern Distributor at Corrimal is under review by Transport NSW after an increase in the number of fatalities in the area over the last five years.

State MP for Keira and Shadow Minister for Roads Ryan Park is urging residents to have their say whether or not the speed camera at Corrimal is effective as a road safety  measure as part of a review currently underway by Transport NSW.

“Speed Cameras no doubt have a role in reducing fatalities on our roads, but this particular location is under review as there has been an increase in the number of fatalities in the area over the last five years when compared to the previous five years,” Mr Park said.

“Speed cameras need to be in locations that are considered high risk to the local community and they need to have success in reducing speed and eliminating fatalities in the area and this is clearly not the case with the camera,” Mr Park said.

“I intend on writing a submission, but I want the community to also have input and have their say about the device in general as well as road safety impact on our local community.

“What the review is also looking for is alternate measures that could be implemented in the area and I urge residents to provide their suggestions,” Mr Park said.
