Free wi-fi now available in city centre

VISITORS to Wollongong city centre can now connect to free wi-fi service.

From today, Wollongong City Council’s wi-fi is available in outdoor areas on Crown Street between Keira and Corrimal Streets, as well as in Globe Lane, and the arts precinct (Civic Plaza) on Burelli Street. The free wi-fi service will also be extended west along Crown Street to Gladstone Avenue in coming weeks.

Council has introduced Wollongong City Wi-Fi as part of its broader strategy to revitalise the city centre, and improve the economic, social and cultural life of the city.

Wollongong Lord Mayor Gordon Bradbery said free wi-fi in the city centre has potential to encourage more people to visit, and to stay longer in the area.

“Whether you’re in the city for work or leisure, it’s now easier than ever to connect with local businesses, find out what’s happening, and stay in touch with family and friends,” he said.

“People are increasingly online and using mobile devices in their day to day lives, and Council recognises the importance of having a safe, accessible network that supports this.”
