POLICE are appealing for public assistance after a man was stabbed at Wollongong On Friday night.
Shortly after 6pm a 44-year-old man was talking to a taxi driver in Church Street.
At this time an unknown man has approached the 44-year-old and stabbed him in the chest before fleeing.
The victim reported the incident to police about two hours later, and he was conveyed to Wollongong Hospital for treatment to non-life threatening injuries.
The man is described as being 180cm tall with long grey hair. He was wearing light blue jeans and a blue and white chequered jacket. He was walking a dog on a lead at the time.
