Bellambi siege man arrested

A MAN, who was the subject of a four-hour police operation at Bellambi earlier this week, has been arrested.

Police were called to the home in Cawley Street about 9.15am on Monday after a man entered the home and allegedly threatened his mother with a firearm. The 45-year-old woman left the home and alerted police.

A perimeter was established and negotiators brought to the scene but when police entered the building about 1pm there was no sign of the 20-year-old man.

At 9am today police arrested the man at the same house in Cawley Street without incident. He was taken to Wollongong Police Station where he was charged with break and enter with intent while armed, armed with intent, and steal from dwelling.

He was refused bail and appeared in Wollongong Local Court today. At that hearing he was again remanded into custody and will re-appear in the same court on May 15.
