IF you like swimming in one of the northern Illawarra’s pools, at Helensburgh, Thirroul, and Corrimal, Wollongong City Council wants you to spend five minutes to complete a survey.
Council said it is aware that the current swimming pools and leisure centres in the city have been in place since early last century and want community comment on what the pools should look like in 2022.
Wollongong City’s Recreation Policy and Planning Officer Lauren Ackerly said the review – conducted by an independent consultant – will seek views and opinions and ideas from the community as well as make recommendations on what types of infrastructure Council should provide.
“The review will provide Council with good information on how we can make the pools better places that attract more users,” Ms Ackerly said. “The review will also look at ways we can enhance the pool experience so that we attract more users. One of our community goals is to join with community members to create healthy communities. We see the city’s pools as areas where the pools are safe, accessible, and exciting places to not only increase health but live a more social and happier lifestyle.
“So I encourage all community members to visit our website and take part in the survey on the review of our public pools.”
This project will provide us with a plan to ensure our future provision of pools, and the services offered within those facilities, continues to meet the demands for recreational swimmers and future aquatic recreational needs. Once the draft Plan is prepared, it will be publicly exhibited for further community ideas and suggestions. We expect the draft Plan to be available in early August.

Strange, http://wcc.wollongong.nsw.gov.au/limesurvey/index.php?sid=27929&newtest=Y&lang=en their survey does not include rockpools.
“Council has engaged consultants, Strategic Leisure Group, to develop a plan for our nine public swimming pools located at Helensburgh, Thirroul, Corrimal, Wollongong (Continental and Beaton Park), Unanderra, Berkeley, Dapto and Port Kembla.”

I put my vote for removing fees for ratepayers and children.

You’re right Steven, the survey does not include rock pools, just the pools at Helensburgh, Thirroul and Corrimal in the northern suburbs. The story has been changed accordingly…… Ed.

More than happy how Helensburgh pool is in its current form.that said it would be disappointing if council did work on the pool then charged a entry fee to get in.
