POLICE have charged a man in relation to the sexual assault of a teenage girl at Thirroul 20 years ago.
On the afternoon of Saturday 30 January 30 1993, the 14-year-old girl began walking home alone after spending the day with friends at Thirroul Beach.
When the girl reached Henly Road she was grabbed from behind by a man and dragged into nearby bushland and allegedly sexually assaulted.
The matter was reported to police at the time and an investigation was carried out.
In 2009, Fairfield police established Strike Force Dalglish after they received fresh information from the public.
Those strike force investigations culminated on Monday, with the arrest a 48-year-old man at Fairfield.
He was interviewed by detectives and charged with aggravated sexual assault with victim under the age of 16 years and assault child with intent to commit sexual intercourse.
The man from has been granted conditional bail and will appear at Fairfield Local Court on Monday November 18.
