Austi arrest over Otford graffiti attack

POLICE have arrested three people after a train was vandalised in the Illawarra last month.
The train was en route from Sydney to Wollongong when it stopped at Otford Railway Station about 12.40am on Saturday May 31.
Police will allege in court that five people spray-painted two carriages with graffiti while it was stopped at the platform.
Police were alerted but the five had left the scene when they arrived a few minutes later.
A search of the area was conducted and several items seized for forensic examination.
The people seen spray-painting had their faces covered.
A police dog tracked a scent to nearby Station Street, where investigators believe their car was parked.About 7am today (Wednesday), police executed search warrants in houses at Avalon, Austinmer and Bellambi.
A 19-year-old man and two 18-year-old men have been arrested taken to Dee Why Police Station and Wollongong Police Station, where they are currently assisting police with their inquiries.
It is anticipated they will all be charged.Superintendent Bernie Ryan said the NSW Police Transport Command’s main aim is to create a safe environment for commuters to travel on the public transport system.
“The police focus on defacing public infrastructure, especially trains, is another great example of our command working alongside Sydney Trains to target this type of activity, and we expect that more arrests will be made in the near future.
“We take all reports of graffiti seriously and will use all our resources to investigate and put offenders before the courts,” Superintendent Ryan said.
