POLICE are appealing for information after a 10-year-old girl and another young child were approached by a man in a van in the Woonona Beach car park two days ago.
The children told police they were walking through the car park, about 3.30pm on Saturday when a white van pulled up beside them.
The man driving the white van beeped the horn, scaring the children, who ran from the car park and informed the girl’s parents of the incident, who contacted police.
The girl told police the van driver appeared to be between 20 and 25 years old, clean-shaven with olive skin and a muscular build.
Wollongong detectives are investigating the incident, and would like to speak to the driver of the van who may be able to assist with their inquiries.
The white van has no windows and has damage to the drivers’ side.
Meanwhile, the incident has again prompted police to encourage parents to discuss the ‘Safe People, Safe Places’ messages with their children.
