A MAN is in hospital after his neck was slashed by a machete at Woonona today.
Just before 5am (Saturday), emergency services were called to Campbell Street following reports of two men – aged 28 and 34 – arguing in the street. On arrival, police found the 28-year-old man bleeding from a neck laceration.
The injured man was treated by paramedics and taken to Wollongong hospital for treatment. His injury is not considered life-threatening, but will require surgery. A crime scene was established and inquiries commenced into the incident.
The 34-year-old man was arrested at the scene. He was taken to Wollongong Police Station and charged with reckless wounding. It will be alleged he had been earlier dancing and swinging a machete above his head when it came into contact with the other man’s neck.
The man was granted conditional bail to appear before Port Kembla Local Court on Tuesday June 16.
