AN information session for residents on options to build a detention basin to manage flood risks in McMahon Street, Fairy Meadow will be held by Wollongong City Council today (Tuesday March 12).
The site is in the Cabbage Tree Creek catchment.
Council’s manager infrastructure planning and strategy, Mike Dowd said a detention basin in this area was identified in the Fairy and Cabbage Tree Creek catchment floodplain risk management plan.
“This option has been supported by the community.,” he said.
“A detention basin will go some way towards reducing the impact of flooding on houses, roads and land. We will be holding an information session for the community, to share the work our specialist technical consultants have done so far on the proposed basin design.
“We’d also like to find out more about what the community values in this area and if they currently use the proposed detention basin site for other activities, such as walking,” Mr Dowd said.
Residents and the community are invited to drop in to the information session at Mount Ousley Public School Hall, McGrath Street, Fairy Meadow on Tuesday March 12 at 4pm to 6pm.
For those unable to attend the session, information and a form to provide feedback will be available on Wollongong City Council’s website until Sunday March 31.
