Reports of deer hunting at Stanwell Park

deer wccHUNTERS have allegedly cut up the carcass of a deer with a large machete in the early hours of this morning at Stanwell Park.

Police are appealing for witnesses following reports of illegal hunting close to a residential area after gun shots were heard in the vicinity of Lawrence Hargrave Drive and The Drive about 3am.

Police have been told a vehicle, possibly a small black sedan, was seen parked in the area and two men exited the car near the intersection of Railway Street.

One of the men was allegedly in possession of a large machete which he used to cut up the carcass of a deer.

The men took photos at the location before getting into the car and driving northbound from the location.

The first man was last seen wearing a red and black checked shirt and a khaki hunting-style cap.

The second man was last seen wearing a grey hooded top.

Wollongong police are appealing for anyone who may have been in the area or may have further information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
