Woman charged over Thirroul park assault

police 2A woman has been charged after allegedly assaulting a man sitting on a park bench at Thirroul over the weekend.

Police have been told about 8.45pm on Saturday September 28, a 57-year-old man was sitting on a bench in Woodward Park, on Lawrence Hargrave Drive, when he was allegedly assaulted by the 18-year-old woman. He suffered minor injuries.

The incident was reported to Wollongong Police on Monday and an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident commenced.

A video and images of the incident was posted by the man’s daughter on social media and has since gone viral, being viewed almost 90,000 times.

About 6pm yesterday (Tuesday), an 18-year-old woman was arrested at Wollongong Police Station and charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm and affray.

The teenager was granted conditional bail to appear before Wollongong Local Court on Tuesday October 29.
