Have your say on Lawrence Hargrave Drive’s temporary closure through survey

THE community is invited to have their say on potential closures on Lawrence Hargrave Drive while essential safety work is carried out.

Transport for NSW Regional Director Southern, Sam Knight, said the Transport for NSW is working to ensure Lawrence Hargrave Drive stays open and safe for motorists in the long term.

“Lawrence Hargrave Drive is an essential route for local traffic and freight, so slope repair work is essential to address the risk of a potential long-term closure due to land slippage,” Ms Knight said.

“Motorist safety is at the forefront of this project with work to include road surface repairs, drainage upgrades and the installation of soil nails to reinforce and strengthen the ground.

“In July, the community voiced their concern about a proposal for closures on the road which included length of detours, timing of the work, traffic impacts and possible impact to local businesses.

“While the timing of this work is yet to be confirmed, Transport for NSW has determined this planned slope repair will not start prior to May 2020.

“The concerns from the community have been listened to and four alternative options for closures have been developed so this work can been carried out with minimal impact to motorists and residents.”

The four alternative options are:

• Option A – Two stages of four-week closures during the winter months
• Option B – One eight-week road closure during the winter months
• Option C – 16-day full road closure (during winter school holidays), plus six to eight months of full road closures on weekdays from 9am-3pm with only one lane open to traffic (under alternating traffic flow) at all other times until the work is completed
• Option D – 16-day road closure (during winter school holidays), plus four to six months of full road closures on weekdays from 9am to 3pm, full road closures from Sunday to Thursday at night from 8pm to 4am and only one lane open to traffic (under alternating traffic flow) at all other times until the work is completed.

This feedback will help Transport for NSW determine how this work will be completed and give the community the opportunity to have their say.

Residents are invited to provide feedback until 5pm Monday 16 December with an update to the community expected in early 2020.

Drop-in sessions will be held at the Country Women’s Association (CWA) Hall at 15 The Drive, Stanwell Park, so the community can speak to the project team and find out more about the work and the options.

The sessions will be held on Tuesday 26 November from 11am to 2pm and Monday 9 December from 5pm to 8pm.
