MORE than 110 of the best rising surf sport stars from around Australia will descend upon Bulli on Sunday for the inaugural Super Surf Teams League.

The next generation of surf sport athletes will compete in the Super Surf Teams League, a surf carnival style competition that will run as a curtain raiser to the final three rounds of the 2019-20 Nutri-Grain IronMan and IronWoman Series.

The Super Surf Teams League is a new initiative from Surf Life Saving Australia, designed to provide an additional pathway for aspiring athletes to test their abilities in a competitive arena.

SLSA National Sport Manager Wayne Druery said the Super Surf Teams League is an exciting event for competitors and spectators alike.

“The Super Surf Teams League will provide specialist athletes the opportunity to compete within a national platform as well as giving up and comers a chance to flex and hone their skills in a competitive environment,” he said.

“Competition will involve single and mixed gender events in traditional Iron racing format.

“Surf carnivals play an important role in developing our athletes as surf lifesavers, and we want to give as many opportunities as we can to our Surf Life Saving athletes to take part and raise their skills.”

Thirteen teams from New South Wales, Queensland, Western Australia, Victoria and South Australia will compete in Ski, Swim, Board and Run events, as well as mixed gender Board and Ski relays and a four person Ocean Lifesaver Relay (Two male, two female).

The Super Surf Teams comprise of four male and four female athletes, with teams based on geographic locations either by State or local regions.

The first round of the Super Surf Teams League kicks off at 9.30am on Sunday, December 1 and will be featured as a delayed broadcast on Fox Sports on Sunday, December 8, at 2pm AEDT.
