JUST after 5am today, Fire and Rescue NSW crews were called to a house in Rothery Street, Corrimal that was found to be well alight.

Crews from Corrimal, Bulli and Wollongong battled the flames and extinguished the fire. The blaze was contained to the front of the dwelling and no occupants were found in the house.

Fire and Rescue NSW Acting Superintendent, Scott Dodson said it was a timely reminder for the community to develop their fire escape plan.

“Now is the time for residents to check they have a working smoke alarm and that all members of the family have an awareness of calling triple zero in an emergency,” he said.

The cause of the fire has not been determined.
