LIFEGUARDS have rescued an adolescent boy at Bellambi Beach this afternoon.
A Wollongong City Council spokesperson said the boy is believed to have fallen into the water attempting to retrieve a large inflatable ball about 3.15pm today. He was rescued from a rip about 400m north of the beach’s flagged area.
The boy was treated by lifeguards at the beach, and was transported to Wollongong Hospital.
“We encourage all beach users to always swim between the flags,” the spokesperson said.
“Remember, if you do get in to trouble in the water, remain calm and put up your arm to attract the attention of lifeguards or lifesavers.”
