FREE workshops will be provided for the community as part of a project to celebrate the Coledale Community Hall becoming the home for the South Coast Writers Centre (SCWC).
The creative project, supported by Wollongong City Council, will develop a mural for the outside wall of the Coledale hall (which the SCWC made their new home in early 2020) through free writing workshops for the surrounding community.
The opportunity provides a space for anyone with a connection to Coledale to contribute to the creation of the mural whilst exploring writing forms with Judi Morison and Mark Tredinnick. The themes and writing from the workshops will go on to inform the design of the mural by artist Bradley Eastman AKA Beastman.
SCWC spokesperson, Adara Enthaler said the community can join in drawing inspiration from the history of Coledale and its people. With poet Mark Tredinnick, participants will learn the practices of poetry and of place and landscape.
“We feel very inspired by the rich history of Coledale and the many artists who reside in the community,” Adara said.
“This project is our opportunity to cement our new home in Coledale by bringing a fun element for locals, tourists and SCWC members, to create something that is meaningful through expressions of creative arts.
“As someone who grew up in the area, I’m also very excited to see more public art in the smaller suburbs of the Illawarra.”
Registrations to the workshops are required and can be made by visiting the South Coast Writers Centre website or calling 4228 0151.
