A WOMAN has been critically injured in a Fairy Meadow house fire in the early hours of this morning.

Firefighters from across the Illawarra were called to the house in Matthew Street after receiving numerous triple zero calls about 2.15am today (Tuesday).

Four people, including three children, managed to escape the fire before fire crews arrived to rescue a 33-year-old woman from the house.

A Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) spokesperson said that the woman told triple zero she was trapped due to the fire.

“She remained on the phone with the FRNSW call-taker as crews were assigned,” the spokesperson said.

“While on route, critical information was passed on from the call taker to the crews as to the exact location of the person still trapped inside the burning house.

“A woman was soon located and removed from the house and handed over to awaiting NSW Ambulance Paramedics. The occupant was conveyed to hospital.”

The four people who escape the blaze were not injured.

Firefighters managed to prevent the fire from spreading to neighbouring properties. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
