A woman has died after being found unconscious inside her burning home at Fairy Meadow earlier this week.

Emergency services were called to a home at Matthew Street, Fairy Meadow, just after 2am on Wednesday, May 19, following reports of a fire.

Fire and Rescue NSW attended and found a woman and her three grandchildren had escaped the building uninjured; however, a 33-year-old woman was unaccounted for from the house.

Firefighters entered the home and found the woman in a bedroom. She was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics, before being taken to Wollongong Hospital in a critical condition; Wollongong Police District were advised last night that she had died.

Inquiries are continuing into the cause of the blaze.

Anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers: 1800 333 000 or visit the Crime Stoppers website . Information is treated in strict confidence.
