POLICE are appealing for public information as investigations continue into a fatal boating incident last month.
On Sunday, July 4, 2021, Wollongong police were notified after three men, who boarded a boat at Bellambi boat ramp about 2pm the previous day (Saturday, July 3, 2021), did not return as scheduled.
A search commenced involving local police, the Marine Area Command and PolAir, as well as Surf Life Saving NSW and crews from Port Kembla and Shellharbour Marine Rescue.
The bodies of three men and an upturned boat were recovered off Port Kembla. They were formally identified as men aged 19, 42 and 44.
Detectives from the Marine Area Command established Strike Force Wheelwright to investigate the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
As inquiries continue, police have released an image of the vessel and urge anyone who saw it on the day of the incident to come forward.
Anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers: 1800 333 000 or https://nsw.crimestoppers.com.au. Information is treated in strict confidence.
