THE fish won’t be thankful, but passionate anglers will welcome the news that Wollongong City Council is undertaking maintenance at Bellambi’s popular fish cleaning tables.
The Council will phase the works across the five tables so that at least two tables remain available for use during the upgrade.
Each table will be cleaned using fresh water and a high-pressure hose, with the concrete ground, smoothed and sealed.
The work will start on Monday September 6 and are expected to be wrapped up by Tuesday September 7 – weather permitting.
Wollongong Lord Mayor Gordon Bradbery said the wear and tear on the tables means an upgrade was necessary.
“We are in a particularly challenging time thanks to COVID, but our staff are continuing to undertake works to ensure the upkeep the range of amenities, facilities and assets across our city – this includes the popular Bellambi boat ramp fishing tables,” he said.
Undertaking maintenance on the tables is an example of keeping up with demand as safely as possible in these challenging times. It also ensures they’re available, safe and an enjoyable experience for our community members.
“While we should all be doing the right thing at this time in terms of COVID-safe behaviours, we’re asking those using the tables at this time, to make sure they do their part and follow Public Health Orders.
“In addition to wearing a mask, carrying and using hand sanitiser, staying socially distant and getting tested and staying home if you’re feeling unwell, we’re also asking people to be mindful that, if it’s busy, it might take a little extra time to get a table.
“We thank everyone for their patience as we give these popular tables a new lease of life.’’
