Man charged after police chase through Bellambi and East Corrimal

A MAN has been charged with driving offences following a pursuit through the streets of Bellambi and East Corrimal last month.

Just after 10am on (Friday January 11, 2022), officers attached to Southern Region Enforcement Squad were patrolling the Bellambi area, when they attempted to stop a Holden Astra.

The Holden allegedly failed to stop, and a pursuit was initiated, travelling through local streets before entering Dobbie Avenue. The vehicle mounted a concrete bollard where a number of children were playing in a nearby park.

Due to safety concerns, the pursuit was terminated and a short time later, the Holden was found abandoned on Staithes Mews, Bellambi.

Following inquiries to identify the driver, police went to a home on Rothery Street, Bellambi, about 2.20pm on Thursday February 17 where a 33-year-old man was found hiding in a shed at the back of the property. He was arrested and taken to Wollongong Police Station.

The man was charged with police pursuit – not stop – drive recklessly, drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous and drive wile licence cancelled. He is currently before the courts.
