SYDNEY Thunder will bring one of their Twenty20 games to Towradgi’s North Dalton Park this summer.
Sydney Thunder will play a Twenty20 warm-up match against a Wollongong Invitational Xl, comprised of local Wollongong cricketers on Wednesday December 5 starting at 5.30pm.
The match will feature a star studded Sydney Thunder squad who boast the calibre of Australian stars such as Usman Khawaja, Dirk Nannes, Chris Rogers and Mark Cosgrove, in addition to Pakistani all-rounder Shahid Afridi and New Zealand batsman Martin Guptill.
Sydney Thunder General Manager John Dyson said the match will provide an opportunity to bring exciting cricket to the people of Wollongong.
“The Sydney Thunder are all about providing a show and with the quality of players in our squad, it will be great to play our only full warm-up match before the KFC T20 Big Bash League, at an excellent venue such as North Dalton Park,” he said.
“I know that all our players are looking forward to it.”
Wollongong Lord Mayor Gordon Bradbery said with the growing popularity of Twenty20 cricket it is great news to have players International cricketers playing in the city.
The game is the Sydney Thunder’s final match before they take on the Sydney Sixers at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Saturday December 8, in the first match of this year’s KFC T20 Big Bash League.
