A FAIRY Meadow man has been charged following an assault in North Wollongong shortly after midnight on Sunday.
A 31-year-old man was at a service station on Flinders Street when he became involved in an argument with another man.
The man was pushed to the ground and had his head stomped on, causing him to lose consciousness, before the alleged offender left with a woman.
Witnesses called emergency services who attended a short time later.
The injured man was taken to Wollongong Hospital where he remains.
Following inquiries, police arrested a man at a Wollongong nightclub a short time later.
During a search of the man officers allegedly located a quantity of cocaine.
The 19-year-old was arrested and taken to Wollongong Police Station where he was charged with affray and possessing a prohibited drug.
He was given bail to appear at Wollongong Local Court on Tuesday October 2.
Investigations into the incident are continuing and further charges are likely.
