THIS weekend a little bit of country comes to Northern Illawarra when the 59th annual Bulli Show is staged.
Although the Society is celebrating its Diamond Jubilee, this weekend will be the 59th annual event at Slacky Flat. Bulli’s first annual show, on January 3 and 4 1953, was an outstanding success. Gate takings were well over £800 with an additional £100 rain insurance topping the kitty after a storm on the Saturday night. For a history of the Bulli Show visit the Looking Back website.
To celebrate the Society’s Jubilee, a Queen Elizabeth II look-alike competition will be held, with the winner given the honour of opening the Show with a regal wave.
Children will also get a taste of royalty with a best-decorated Crown competition.
Other children’s attractions include a magic show, pony rides, stilt walkers, a petting zoo and fireworks on Saturday night.
The Bulli Show will also feature sheep shearing and blacksmith demonstrations.
Rikki Organ will headline the live music.
Exhibitions in the pavillion will include a variety of art, needlework, knitting, crochet, spinning, weaving, crafts, dolls, woodwork and photography.
Traditional favourites, such as pickles, jams, scones and cakes will be judged, as will flowers, pot plants, vegetables, honey and eggs in the pavilion.
A “Beaut Ute” competition will also be held on Sunday.
The show will be held at the Bulli Showgrounds this weekend. Tickets are $8 for adults.
