A Stanwell Park lifeguard provided assistance in the recovery of three people who were swimming at Stanwell Park beach after lifeguard hours on Monday.
Wollongong City Council Senior Lifeguard responded quickly and provided assistance with local surfers who had recovered three people from the water.
The three swimmers had become trapped in a small rip at the beach. When the Council lifeguard arrived in the scene, he provided oxygen therapy until an ambulance arrived to take two of the three swimmers to hospital. Beach Services Coordinator Jason Foye said: “This is a timely reminder of the importance of swimming at patrolled beaches within patrolling hours and always remember, no flags equals no swim”.
