WORK has started on the refurbishment of the grandstand at Helensburgh’s Rex Jackson Oval.
The project is expected to take around three months, and includes replacing the grandstand’s roof, upgrading the concrete steps and seating to include a central staircase, and stormwater drainage work.
Already, Wollongong City Council have removed the existing roof and repairs are underway on the remainder of the structure.
“I am sure all the sporting groups that use this oval will be pleased to hear Council is refurbishing this grandstand. It’s a well-used space,’’ Wollongong Acting Lord Mayor John Dorahy said.
“The work is being carried out during the week so, while the grandstand itself is off-limits, the remainder of the oval can be used for all the usual sports.’’
