THIRROUL traffic changes, including parking relocations, the installation of right-turn bays into High Street and Wrexham Road and moving the southbound bus stop, will go ahead with Transport for NSW starting work this month.

A Transport for NSW spokesperson said Transport the decision to proceed with the work comes after positive community feedback between June 5 and 14.

“We heard from 188 community members, with the majority responses positive and in support of the improvements,” the spokesperson said.

“We received a high level of community support for the High Street and Wrexham Road turn lanes, as well as the bus stop and parking relocation.

“This work is important to improving road safety on this busy stretch of road, and we believe these minor changes will benefit the broader community, from motorists to public transport users.

The spokesperson said Transport has worked closely with Wollongong City Council and local bus operators on the bus stop relocation, and the outcome will make accessing the stop safer for commuters.

“The bus zone will be three-metres-wide, and the slimline bus shelter will be closer to traffic lights, improving access, with concrete barriers separating traffic from pedestrians to improve safety” the spokesperson said.

Work to improve the road surface at Lawrence Hargrave Drive is currently being carried out, and the additional improvements will begin with survey work from Sunday July 2, weather permitting.
Traffic improvement work including survey work, line marking and the bus stop relocation will be carried out between 8pm and 4am from Sunday July 2 for up to two weeks, weather permitting. There will be no work on Friday and Saturday nights.
