EXPERTS have warned that the 2023/24 bushfire season could be extremely dangerous due to excessive fuel loads and hot weather.
To help ensure Illawarra residents are ready for the bushfire season ahead, two public information sessions will be held at Thirroul and Helensburgh on Saturday.
The bushfire information sessions, hosted by State MP for Heathcote, Maryanne Stuart, will be held on Saturday, September 9, at the Thirroul Railway Institute Hall from 9am to 10am and from 11am to midday at the Tradies Club, Helensburgh.
“We are fortunate in the Heathcote electorate to be surrounded by pristine national parks and the escarpment,” Ms Stuart said.
“However, we all know that beautiful greenery can quickly turn into a devastating scene due to an out-of-control bushfire.
“I want to ensure our community is equipped with as much knowledge as possible to navigate a significant bushfire. That is why I will be hosting several bushfire preparedness forums in the coming weeks.”
The forums will see emergency services gather in the one room to explain to residents their role during a bushfire emergency. The sessions will also present agencies like the NSW Rural Fire Service with another opportunity to explain how residents can be best prepared for a bushfire.
Residents can book for the sessions by emailing heathcote@parliament.nsw.gov.au or by phoning 9548 0144.
