A TEENAGE girl is before the courts over an alleged armed robbery of an East Woonona bottle shop on Wednesday.

A person, wearing a face covering, entered a store on Park Road, East Woonona on Wednesday (September 6, 2023), allegedly threatened two employees with a knife before stealing three bottles of alcohol and fleeing just before 6.30pm. The two employees were not physically injured during the incident.

Wollongong detectives commenced an investigation into the incident, and as part of their inquiries went to nearby Nicholson Park where a teenage girl has attempted to flee.

The 15-year-old was arrested, at which time she has allegedly assaulted officers. She was taken to Wollongong Police Station.

During a search of the park with the assistance of the Dog Unit, officers found and seized a knife. It will be forensically examined.

The teen was charged with robbery armed with offensive weapon and two counts of assault police officer in execution of duty.
