THE Illawarra region is expecting another weekend of heavy rain.
The Weather Bureau has forecast a severe weather warning for heavy rainfall of up to 100mm and possible flash flooding.
Wollongong City Council has placed additional sand at four locations that can be used to make sandbags. Residents can pick up sand from:
- Bellambi Boat Ramp Overflow car park
- Fairy Meadow Beach car park
- Fred Finch Park car park
- Rex Jackson Oval in Helensburgh
Residents are reminded to bring their own bags (if you don’t have hessian bags, the supermarket ‘green’ bags do the trick) and a shovel. If you’re looking for advice on how to prepare properties for heavy rainfall visit the SES website.
Council will have teams on standby over the weekend to assist the SES and emergency services should the rainfall see road closure or other issues. At this stage, Council’s sports fields remain open. Check out Council’s website for further updates.
