Work on Bulli Pass

BULLI Pass has reopened at night with repairs to three major landslip sites on the steepest section of the road – from the M1 to the ‘Elbow’ – now complete.

The extensive six-month work program has repaired $5 million in landslip damage caused during record-breaking rainfall in 2022.

Bulli Pass was closed at night during the major work to allow safe access for workers and large, heavy machinery. Work crews used long-reach excavators, elevated work platforms, concrete boom pumps and, at times, operated in abseiling harnesses to access the landslip sites which were up to 10 metres below the road.

A critical part of the work involved installing long steel rods, called soil nails, to add strength to the slope and then applying a layer of spray-on concrete, known as shotcrete, to prevent further erosion.

A Transport for NSW spokesperson said Bulli Pass will be closed for one night in the near future while sections of the road are resurfaced and for new line marking.

Work is progressing at another site about one kilometre below the hairpin bend. This site is about 50 per cent complete and the single lane closure will be in place until all remaining work is carried out.

The work is funded through State and Federal Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA).
