THE popular Woodfest event is back at Bulli Showground this weekend.
The family-friendly festival, which attracts wood-lovers from across Australia, is a local family-run event hosted by the Illawarra Woodwork School and celebrates wood, creativity and craftsmanship, with workshops for all ages and skill levels.
From markets and food to music and more, there’s something for everyone so join in the fun! There’s a gold coin entry to the festival, however workshops for both children and adults are limited and vary in price, with bookings essential (most booked out last year).
The inaugural event in 2017 was the brainchild of Stuart and Suzanne Montague from The Illawarra Woodwork School and Christian and Tomiko Timbs from Japanese Tools, who have a long association with the fine woodwork industry. Stuart and Christian decided to tap into the enormous interest in woodworking by organising a festival.
Spokesperson Susie Fagan said the festival is returning woodworking back to its grassroots where people can enjoy hands on experience and learn about the tools, the skills and the craft of wood artisians. Part of the inspiration behind the festival is to rekindle the style of woodworking show from years gone by where it meant more than just an opportunity to sell finished products.
Previously known as the Illawarra Festival of Wood, the event will be held from 9am to 5pm on Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 October, so put it in your diary!
