WHILE some minor work still remains, Lawrence Hargrave Drive at Scarborough is essentially back to normal traffic arrangements after landslip damage to the road and pedestrian footpath have been repaired.
The technically complex repairs were carried out to the unstable slope located close to the top of an 82-metre-high steep cliff face above the ocean.
Loose soil and rock were carefully excavated from the site in stages to reach a stable base and long steel rods were drilled under the width of the road to add strength to the slope.
Large foam blocks were used to create a new lightweight base for the road that would reduce weight and pressure on the slope.
Some minor finishing tasks are still required at the site and Transport for NSW will carry the work out as soon as possible.
The $2 million program of work was funded through the Australian and NSW Government’s Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements.
