FOLLOWING a record-breaking number of donations in 2023, NSW Minister for Illawarra and State MP for Keira Ryan Park has joined Supported Accommodation & Homelessness Services Shoalhaven Illawarra (SAHSSI) CEO Penny Dordoy to officially launch the Christmas Toy Drive for 2024.
Since 2011, the annual Christmas Toy Drive has collected toys from thousands of generous donors, with donated toys going to families receiving assistance, help, care or relief from SAHSSI.
Mr Park said every year he is overwhelmed by the hundreds of generous people who contribute to the Christmas Toy Drive.
“The toys and gifts donated help women and families who are experiencing domestic violence and homelessness. These simple acts of kindness really mean the world,” he said.
“When you’re heading out to do your Christmas Shopping this year, please consider buying some extra toys and make this Christmas special for those who need it most.
“I’m so proud that every year the Toy Drive keeps getting bigger and bigger, breaking the previous year’s number of toys, and I hope this year will be the same.”
SAHSSI is vital service in the Illawarra Shoalhaven, and has been providing critical support to vulnerable women and their children affected by homelessness and domestic violence for more than 30 years.
During the holiday season, families impacted by domestic violence need more love and support than ever and this drive goes a long way to supporting parents to make Christmas special for their children.
SAHSSI CEO Penny Dordoy said all donations of unwrapped toys are welcome.
“Now in its 14th year, the program has had an incredible impact, growing every year, helping thousands of children. We can’t thank Ryan and his incredible team enough,” she said.
The toys can be delivered unwrapped to Ryan Park’s office at 263 Princes Highway, Corrimal during business hours. Other locations to donate toys include Woonona Bulli RSL and Wests Illawarra.
Donations will be accepted up until Tuesday, 3 December 2024.
