NEW glow-in-the-dark line markings, known as ‘Glow Roads’, will be installed on the elbow of Bulli Pass in a six-month trial to improve safety for road users at night.
A Transport for NSW spokesperson said ‘Glow Roads’ are designed to improve night-time visibility on the road, help markings to stand out in poor weather, and provide a safe alternative at sites where street lighting may not be practical.
The photo-luminescent road lines absorb and store light energy during the day. They then emit a soft, glowing light during the night.
Glow-in-the-dark signage will also be installed to alert drivers of the upcoming hairpin bend.
Work to place the ‘Glow Roads’ line marking will be carried out during the upcoming routine closure of Bulli Pass for essential maintenance work.
Bulli Pass will be closed in both directions between Lawrence Hargrave Drive and the M1 Princes Motorway between 9am and 3pm on Tuesday 3 December and Wednesday 4 December 2024, and between 7.30pm and 4.30am on Monday 9 December and Tuesday 10 December 2024, weather permitting.
During work, detours will be in place via Lawrence Hargrave Drive or the M1 Princes Motorway and Memorial Drive.
Residents within the closure area will have access to their properties at all times under the guidance of traffic controllers.
“The trial will run for six months. During this time, we will contact you to gain feedback on the new line marking,” the spokesperson said.
“This feedback will be collected and reviewed to determine whether to extend the trial or implement the ‘Glow Road’ technology.”
