MOTORISTS are advised of upcoming night closures on the M1 Princes Motorway between Bulli Tops and Memorial Drive, as well as Picton Road, for maintenance work.
Work will include routine road repairs and resurfacing, vegetation maintenance, clearing gutters and drains, maintenance of safety barriers, pavement investigation and litter collection.
Work is also being carried out to install signs and line marking to support a ‘no right turn’ from Mount Keira Road onto Picton Road to improve the safety of motorists. After signs and line marking have been installed motorists travelling to Picton Road or the M1 Princes Motorway to Sydney who take this route will need to travel via Clive Bissell Drive instead.
During work, the M1 Princes Motorway will be closed between Bulli Tops and Memorial Drive. Picton Road will be closed between the M1 Princes Motorway and Almond Street at Wilton.
The roads will be closed from 8pm to 4am on Sunday 4 and Sunday 18 May 2025, weather permitting.
On both work dates, Picton Road eastbound will be closed from 7.30pm to 4am to ensure the M1 Princes Motorway is clear by 8pm.
If work is delayed due to bad weather, work will be carried out on Sunday 25 May, 8pm to 4am.
Detours will be in place.
Motorists travelling between Wollongong and Bulli Tops will be detoured via Memorial Drive and Bulli Pass and should allow up to 15 minutes’ additional travel time.
Motorists travelling between Wollongong and the Hume Motorway will be detoured via Memorial Drive, Bulli Pass and Appin Road, and should allow up to 40 minutes’ additional travel time. Light vehicles can also use Wilton Road at Broughton Pass between Appin Road and Picton Road.
Motorists travelling to the Hume Motorway can also detour via the Illawarra Highway at Macquarie Pass.
Heavy vehicles over 19 metres long and more than 50.5 tonnes will not be able to access Bulli Pass or Macquarie Pass and are advised to delay their journey or they will be parked.
Motorists are advised to drive to the conditions and follow the directions of traffic controllers and signs.
Transport thanks the community for their patience while we carry out this necessary work.
