WORK will start from next week to repair the next stage of landslip damage on Lawrence Hargrave Drive between Coalcliff and Stanwell Park.

The repairs are needed following damage caused by extreme weather events in early 2023 and are being jointly funded by the State and Federal Governments through the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA).

A total of $1.8 million worth of repairs will be carried out on the eastern side of Lawrence Hargrave Drive between Coalcliff and Stanwell Park to prevent further ground movement.

Work will include clearing debris and vegetation, drilling steel rods into the slope and installing a new guardrail.

This latest work will be carried out from Monday 15 September is expected to be completed by late November, weather permitting.

A single lane closure will be in place on Lawrence Hargrave Drive to allow safe access to the site and to ensure the safety of road users. Temporary traffic signals will operate both day and night for the duration of the work.

Transport for NSW advises to allow an additional five minutes’ travel time.

Federal MP for Cunningham Alison Byrnes has thanked residents for their patience and understanding as the works are undertaken.

“I know what an important thoroughfare this is for our community, and I am absolutely delighted that the Australian Government is supporting these crucial repair works to be completed,” she said.

State MP for Heathcote Maryanne Stuart said Lawrence Hargrave Drive is a key artery for the community and it’s critical that it is kept safe for local motorists.

“The NSW and Commonwealth governments are to be congratulated on undertaking this project,” she said.

“Our community has been looking forward to this project and the start of works will be widely welcomed.”
