POLICE have charged a man with firearm offences after locating a number of guns in a car during a vehicle stop near Helensburgh today.
About 10am, officers attached to Sutherland Detectives and Highway Patrol stopped a green Toyota Landcruiser as it travelled south on the F6 between Waterfall and Helensburgh.
During a search of the four-wheel drive police allegedly located a pistol and shotgun hidden behind interior panels of the vehicle. Two registered rifles were also located inside the vehicle and seized by police.
The driver, a 57-year-old man, was arrested and taken to Sutherland Police Station. Police later conducted a search warrant at his house in Dremeday Road, Northmead where they seized 10 registered firearms and approximately 300 rounds of ammunition.
During the search warrant police also allegedly located an unregistered pistol, an air rifle, silencers, rifle barrels and an amount of Viagra tablets.
The man was charged with a number of offences including three counts of possess unregistered firearm, possess prohibited weapon, possess defaced firearms and possess restricted substance. He was granted conditional bail to appear in Sutherland Local Court on Thursday March 8.
