LEARNER drivers will have the opportunity to clock up valuable time behind the wheel by participating in an upcoming Log Book Run.

A combined strategy of Wollongong City Council, Bulli Police and Community Youth Club (PCYC), Volunteers in Policing, the Roads & Maritime Services and the Illawarra Road Safety Group; the Log Book Run is designed to help Learner Drivers complete the compulsory 120 hours driving experience required to get their Provisional Licence.

Both learner drivers and their supervisors will have the opportunity to take part in a planned drive through parts of Wollongong city and the drive will include a range of driving experiences.

“The planned route will incorporate a range of driving conditions allowing the learner driver to gain experience in different situations,” Road Safety Officer Jack Harrison said.

“Learner Drivers will be able to experience a Random Breath Test with police in a non-threatening environment while a Driver Reviver site will also be set up to help teach the learners how better to deal with fatigue.

“The activity recognises the importance of educating young drivers early in their driving life about behavioural issues that could one day save their lives.”

The log book run will begin at the Bulli PCYC at 9.30am on Sunday August 5. Learner drivers will drive with their supervising driver on a designated route before returning back at the PCYC at 11.30am, followed by a free light lunch.
