THE 140-year-old tall ship James Craig made a visit to Port Kembla Harbour on Friday afternoon and The Bulli Times’ photographers Warren and Diana Ackary were there to capture the majestic sight.

With three lofty wooden masts, 21 canvas sails and polished timber fittings, the James Craig is normally berthed in Sydney Harbour. She made the rare journey down the coast past Bulli for Saturday’s Port Kembla Maritime Community Day.

Forty passengers enjoyed the voyage down the spectacular northern Illawarra coastline before pulling into Port Kembla about 4.30pm.

The ship’s captain John Dikkenberg, formerly from the Illawarra, has been part of the volunteer James Craig crew for seven years.

It was a lovely day for the both of us as well as the many visitors. I personally was thrilled to see the SES, NSWFB, The Army as well as many other stations there (free sausage sizzle also). From my observations a great day was had by all the people we saw either onboard or walking around the various tents as there was alot to see & do!
