BELLAMBI apprentice Simon Savini has been named the 2012 Engineering Fabrication Apprentice of the Year at the NSW and Victorian Manufacturing Industries Group Apprenticeship Scheme (MIGAS) Awards Night earlier this month.

MIGAS recruits and employs apprentices and trainees, then places them with participating training companies for their training period.

MIGAS CEO, David Brown said the evening was a great opportunity to reward their hard working apprentices, trainees and proactive host companies.

“Each of our winners have demonstrated dedication to their futures with strong levels of initiative, efficiency and pride in their work,” Mr Brown said.

“The evening also gave us the chance to celebrate our dedicated host companies’ hard work in training and up skilling our apprentices and trainees,” he said.

Simon Savini demonstrated his strong initiative when he became one of the only employees at JBK Engineering at Unanderra to be able to operate the computer numerical control press.

With the attitude of a fully qualified tradesman, the 23 year old was recognised for his ability to be a great leader and mentor to other apprentices in the workplace.

Held on Friday April 12, the national company’s awards night celebrated their 25th anniversary and showcased the hard work of their apprentices, trainees and dedicated host companies.
