A WOLLONGONG City Council employee will face court next month after peep holes were detected at Helensburgh swimming pool.

Earlier this year, staff members at the public pool in Helensburgh allegedly discovered a number of holes in an adjoining wall to a female change room at the location.

Wollongong police were alerted after a man was allegedly detected peering through the holes into the women’s shower area.

Following further inquiries, police today (Tuesday), arrested and charged a 59-year-old man with five counts of peep and pry. He was granted conditional bail and is due to appear before Wollongong Local Court on Tuesday May 17.

In a statement a Wollongong Council spokesperson said concerns were raised initially regarding a potential breach of the Code of Conduct by its staff at Helensburgh Pool.

“Council immediately investigated the matter,” the spokesperson said.

“As a result the staff member’s employment with Council was terminated and the matter reported to NSW Police and the Ombudsman.

“As this is a police matter, Council will not be providing further comment on the matter.”
