WANT to try something new, or perhaps share a long-held passion with others? Wollongong Council’s 2025 Seniors Festival offers the chance to do both, and everything in between.
The program for this year’s Festival, which will be held from 3 March to 16 March, features a host of activities and workshops for people 55 and over, to inspire connection, creativity and lifelong learning
The mostly free events include buggy tours through our beautiful Botanic Garden, exercise classes, health and wellbeing assessments, educational workshops, and the keenly anticipated Lord Mayor’s Afternoon Tea Dance.
The local program is part of the NSW Seniors Festival, the southern hemisphere’s largest celebration recognising the valuable contribution our older citizens make to our community, with more than 500,000 people taking part across the state.
Wollongong Lord Mayor Tania Brown encouraged people to get involved, and to embrace this year’s theme of ‘Time to Shine’.
“The way our program has grown in recent times tells you how keenly anticipated the Seniors Festival is each year,” Cr Brown said.
“There are more than 85 events happening over a two-week period, with most of them free to enjoy, so there’s something on offer for everyone. It is also an opportunity to thank our older citizens for their contribution to our community and encourage people to stay connected.
“As people get older it can be harder to maintain connections to community and the Festival is a great way for seniors to get out and try something new, spend time with friends, perhaps make a few new ones, and just have fun.”
The program for the 2025 Seniors Festival is now live on Council’s website. Tickets to the Lord Mayor’s Afternoon Tea Dance will go on sale via Council’s website closer to the event date.
