$400,000 awarded to sporting clubs to finance their dreams

COLEDALE Waves Junior Football Club have been awarded $100,000 to fence, irrigate and provide storage at their grounds.

The sporting club is one of eight awarded $400,000 by Wollongong City Council to help improve facilities in the city.

Council’s Sports Grants Program aims to provide direct financial assistance to sporting clubs and associations who use Council facilities. The grants will be used to fund small and medium sized projects that will directly improve the facilities.

The Bulli Football Club has also been awarded $17,930 as part of the grants to install privacy screen at their ground.

In other Council news, a tender valued at $1.5 million has been accepted for the design and construction of sports field drainage at Cawley Park, Russell Vale, Judy Masters Oval, Balgownie, and Lakelands Oval, Dapto.

The scope of work also includes sports field irrigation at Judy Masters Oval to further improve the playing conditions on these fields during extended dry periods.

All three fields were significantly impacted by wet weather in recent years, particularly in 2021-2022. The upgrades will help ensure that the fields remain functional after wet weather.
