A MAN who allegedly cracked a glass shop door with a carton of beer at Fairy Meadow yesterday was arrested by an off-duty police officer.
The officer observed the man and two women in an argument outside a store on the Princes Highway about 3.30pm on Wednesday.
The man allegedly swung a carton of beer between the two women, colliding with the glass door, causing it to crack.
The officer approached the man nearby on Elliots Road, identifying himself as a police officer, when the man allegedly swore and attempted to leave.
The officer restrained the 37-year-old man before Wollongong police attended.
The man was taken to Wollongong Police Station where he was charged with malicious damage and resisting/hindering police. He was granted conditional bail to appear at Wollongong Local Court on Tuesday November 12.
The off-duty officer – attached to the Police Transport Command – was not injured during the incident.
